Being positive and optimistic is very important to me and this attitude makes me cherish every moment of my life.
How and when did you know you wanted to become a model?
Well, as a child I was always such a poser, striking poses for my whole family, apparently, I would apparently sit and kiss my reflection in this little mirror of my mum’s when I was around 8 months old, so it seems I knew I had the potential back then. But as I got older and started receiving such great feedback from the editorials I’ve done, then I knew I could make a career out of it!

I was discovered at a shopping mall in Durban whilst shopping with my mum when I was about 17 years old.

Hanging out with my beautiful family and friends, they are the people at the end of the day who know you the most and keep you grounded!
What would you ask yourself that we haven’t asked you in this interview?
What would you have done differently if you were given a chance to start over in the industry? I would have to say that I certainly do not have any regrets, but if I had to change one thing, it would be to have maybe started travelling at a younger age. I was given lots of opportunities to do so, but I did not want to leave my comfort zone, but I believe everything happens for a reason and it is never too late to show the world what you’re made of!

How and when did you know you wanted to become a model?
I’ve been a dancer all my life, and the beauty of dance was always something I really loved. Modeling to me is an extension of that, and a way to combine my love for artistry with the beauty and creativity of fashion. My desire to model was solidified when I saw Karlie Kloss, Ali Michaels, and Chanel Iman sharing the cover of Teen Vogue. It was so beautiful, and certainly a moment I will never forget.
Where were you discovered?
After being approached by a few modeling agencies when I was younger, I decided to send in a cell-phone picture of myself to FORD models. The next day, they called me back, and in the summer of my grade eleven, I was signed!
What do you like most about being a model?
I love being able to take on a persona that is so different from my own. The clothes and people that I come into contact with are so beautiful and inspiring, it truly never gets old. The travel is also such a blessing, as I’ve been able to know and see so many diverse parts of the world!
What has been the greatest experience you have had so far?
Traveling to Hawaii to shoot the S/S 2012 issue of Wedding bells was such an incredible experience, and I will certainly remember it forever. Also, several days ago I walked in Thom Browne’s womanswear collection, and got the chance to play a true “fashion victim.” We got to lie in coffins and emerge to show guests a fashion fantasy…and set in the New York City Public Library…I couldn’t have been more thrilled!
What is your fashion dream?
Teen Vogue. Absolutely, hands down! It’s been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember.
What was your favorite city you traveled to work to?
Athens, Greece. There was so much history, and the culture was so unlike anything I’d ever seen.
Who is your fashion icon?
I would honestly say that I haven’t found one yet, but I certainly draw inspiration and admire several people, both in and out of the public eye. I love the timeless looks Old-Hollywood stars became famous for, and adore the quirky styles I see in my own friends. Our personal style is a truly fascinating thing!
What are your goals in the next 5 years as a model?
To stay true to myself, remain grounded, and do the best that I can on those terms. Every day in this industry is a blessing, and I hope to never lose sight of that!
What are your secrets for a fit and healthy body?
I think it is very important to have a healthy lifestyle, and to always make exercise and active living a part of each day. I've been raised with a high knowledge and appreciation for nutrition, which I believe has helped me a great deal. If you can establish a routine that brings enjoyment and positive results, that is the ultimate blessing.
What is your favorite part of your body?
My eyebrows. Passed down from my father, they're probably the most unruly part of me!!
What makes you feel sexy?
Unfortunately, not much. I'm quite content being a nerd, as nothing thrills me more than a good story or piece of history. I own a onesie, wear a retainer, and have an obsession with Disney. Perhaps one day I will outgrow all of this, but I certainly hope not!!
Is the fashion world what you expected it to be?
I'd say it is much more complex, and detailed than what I anticipated. So much goes into a photo shoot, fashion show, or collection that most people don't realize. When the consumer looks at a finished product, they forget that it isn't just about the model and what she's wearing. It's all at the creation of a stylist, art director, photographer, makeup and hair stylist, photo assistant...the list goes on! So many people put their hard work into this industry, and it absolutely fascinates me. It's beautiful.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I love to dance, read, and make people happy. Those things give me the most joy.
What would you ask yourself that we haven’t asked you in this interview?
Who are the true superstars in my life?
My parents. They're honestly my role models, my friends...everything. I don't know what I'd do without them!! They take the cake.

Models Lesala - D&A Models, Tamzin and Sasha Lee - Boss Models Cape Town.
Clothes David West.
Location Taal Monument in Cape Town, South Africa.
My latest editorial celebrates the growing interest in the diversity of the young South African fashion and design scene. Cape Town was recently awarded the World Design Capital award for 2014 and I wanted to exclusively use local designers and local, multicultural models for this shoot.
I also chose to shoot the editorial at the Taal Monument. It’s an architecturally beautiful structure that was erected in the 70’s just outside Cape Town and was originally a fairly isolated location during the apartheid years. I feel the story ties together the positive artistic future South Africa is busy developing while referencing a time in the recent past where that seemed an impossibility.
How and when did you know you wanted to become a model?
After seeing the prints of my first test shoot when I was 14. It was such a rush of empowerment… I wanted more!
Where were you discovered?
I was discovered at a shopping centre in Durban.
What do you like most about being a model?
Modeling provides me the avenue to express myself in an ever changing and exciting industry, and the opportunity to challenge myself with every new experience that comes with it.
What has been the greatest experience you have had so far?
Definitely teaching at our Ice Modeling School. I have seen so many shy and self-conscious girls aged 4 to 24 come out of their comfort zones and express themselves, discovering their inner and outer beauty. It keeps me grounded knowing I have such an impact on a girl’s confidence.
What is your fashion dream?
To wear a Vera Wang wedding dress. Hope my fiancé reads this!
What was your favorite city you traveled to work to?
I haven’t traveled much in my modeling career as I am a young mom.
Who is your fashion icon?
Heidi Klum. Her style is simple and natural. She keeps it clean in jeans and a t-shirt, hanging out with her kids, or in a sexy black number at a glamorous event.
What are your goals in the next 5 years as a model?
I would love to model in New York Fashion Week and work more internationally. Ultimately, I want to get out of my ‘model comfort zone’ and push myself as far as I can.
What are your secrets for a fit and healthy body?
For me, the key is balance. If your food intake, exercise, water and “entertainment” are balanced, there should be no pressure.
Exercise is easy if you make it fun. Hula-hoop is my thing!! I put on my favorite mix, blast it and sing my heart out while I hula my tummy, arms and legs. You won’t believe how it burns, and is super fun!
What is your favorite part of your body?
My extra long gangly legs.
What makes you feel sexy?
A good song and a dance floor!
Is the fashion world what you expected it to be?
Yes and no. It really is incredibly glamorous being in the spot light on the ramp or on the cover of a magazine. You also get to meet new people, and model garments ranging from elegant evening dresses to outrageous over the top pieces. What I didn’t realize was the long hours of fittings, rehearsals, castings and photo shoots. It can be a lengthy process for all involved in the fashion industry, and I have a new found respect for everyone, from the backstage dresser to the top designer.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I love photography. I’ve started building a collection of people and places that have an emotional trigger for me.
What would you ask yourself that we haven’t asked you in this interview?
From experience, what would be my advice to a young model starting in the fashion industry?
Never compare yourself to other models, or anyone for that matter. Selection and rejection is a part of life. Each model has a unique look and a range of skills to offer. Identify your own strengths and focus on them. Empower yourself and you’re halfway there.
How and when did you know you wanted to become a model?
When I was 17 I was trying to find my way in life. So, one day I decided to go to a model school in Minsk (my native city), and after finishing it I understood that I like this activity and will do my best trying to work in modeling.
Where were you discovered?
In Minsk, Belarus.
What do you like most about being a model?
I like this kind of work, because it always requires me to be an active, strong, emotional and communicative person. Moreover, it helps me to fulfill myself, which is one of the most significant goals in my life. Besides I like travelling and meeting creative people who work in this sphere. Perfect work!
What has been the greatest experience you have had so far?
I’m trying to make every day as the greatest experience and don’t draw so much attention to different mishaps.
What is your fashion dream?
I won’t tell you… it’s a secret.
What was your favorite city you traveled to work to?
Beijing – so many great people in one place!
Who is your fashion icon?
Sasha Pivovarova. She is like an alien, I regard her as a unique model.
What are your goals in the next 5 years as a model?
I’ll do my best to achieve as much as possible. I don’t want to set any limits.
What are your secrets for a fit and healthy body?
Massage, sport gym and not eating sweets in the evening.
What is your favorite part of your body?
I can feature any part of my body that I want, so I don’t have any preferences.
What makes you feel sexy?
Mirrors and loved men.
Is the fashion world what you expected it to be?
I can’t really judge, as I don’t have much experience. But at the moment I can say that I feared it would be worst.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Before, my studies at law-college took a lot of my time, but now I’ve almost finished them, so I’m very glad! When I have free time I prefer meeting with friends, having fun and communication above all, attending different classes, courses, setting goals and achieving them.
What would you ask yourself that we haven’t asked you in this interview?
Are you crazy? Yes, I am.

Black and White Fashion Editorial.
Are we saints or are we sinners? Maybe the combination of both. This fashion story is the perception of inner ego and philosophical reflection on what is right and what is wrong. Religious theme is clashing with the controversial sense of 'sexuality' and 'affection'. Inspired by the eclectic mixture of iconic Marlene Dietrich's style to wear male attire and the vibe of the futuristic rock. Provocative, yet vulnerable.
